Paintings of Incredible Women
I always thought I liked painting landscapes best but I think it was because I was afraid of people. I remember the first time I painted another human. It felt different. It felt like my painting carried their story, and that a piece of them would always exist in the work I had created. And dang, was that a cool feeling.
I am inspired by so many women in my life- strong, creative, and ridiculously intelligent women. I began sketching some of these women and it was just not enough. I wanted to paint them. I wanted their strength, beauty and inspiring stories to be expressed on a canvas.
Painting the women in my life felt like, for the first time, I was able to say that the world does not get to dictate who deserves to be celebrated. That these women, who carry the stories of their ancestors, deserve to be immortalized through paint. How lucky am I to be able to share in that creation- In the celebration of the incredible women who have helped me grow, challenged me to be a better person, and who go out and change the world every single day. These are the first few in a series that I hope only continues to grow and celebrate the incredible women in my life.
